Long term volunteer opportunities on our organic farm

As an extension of our organic agriculture program, we are offering the chance for volunteers to come and stay long term, to really integrate into our environment, whilst learning our organic farming systems in greater detail and depth.

We place a minimum of two months on the program, which we feel is sufficient time for you to witness some of the intricacies of the farming world. Also, extended periods on the farm open up far more cultural opportunities either through the foundation or through your own initiative and can make the stay that much more rewarding. It feels like home after a very short time here.

What to expect;

•  Learn about organic farming and forestation work. The format will follow that of the organic agriculture week (please also the our farm link), though in two months (or longer) all areas will be covered in depth, through practical experience and conversation, to see the results first hand.

•  Farm vegetables destined ultimately for your dinner table or for sale to local families and restaurants. Volunteers will gain first hand experience with the ups and downs of small scale commercial farming.

•  Re-apply your knowledge! As our climate is similar to those of temperate northern hemisphere countries (we have wet and dry seasons, and during the dry we have watering systems allowing 365 day cultivation) volunteers can take home their knowledge for application on a small or large scale.

•  Creativity: You will be given suitable independence to work on your own and to practice your own ideas, as well as work in pairs or in groups depending on the numbers. By helping guide new volunteers through the basics you will also get to teach (but nice and informal); the only way to clear understanding of a subject.

Erecting our greenhouse for organic tomatoes•  With a little dedication, improve your Spanish through daily work and activities with the locals here. The agriculture is run by Stuart, a bilingual Englishman and self taught farmer, and Gimena, a local campesina with 20 years of experience.

•  Independent living in a comfortable house with all the amenities; it is a down shift from western lifestyles, but is a fitting atmosphere when you are in such close contact with the land and your food; nights are frequeuntly spent chatting around the fire place.

•  As many organic vegetables as you can eat; it's a "help yourself" deal and any staples you are missing can easily be obtained in nearby Tabacundo. We guarantee you will leave our farm healthy and happy.

We charge a nominal fee for your stay; just $440 for the 2 months, or $250 for one month. Less than $9 a day for all you can eat organic food and comfortable accommodation!
