Teaching Volunteer Program in El Cristal, Intag
In the schools that we send volunteers too we have had specific requests for the following volunteer skills. The volunteer programme would follow the structure of our normal teaching programme;
El Cristal School, Intag
Computing – volunteers would need an intermediate level of Spanish and spend their time working on computation with the children. There is a programme the school uses called Encarta, but other programmes would be warmly welcomed (in Spanish). There is just one computer in the school so children would rotate to receive the classes.
English – the El Cristal school has 77 children, and the last grade have English as part of their curriculum, however none of the teachers speak or even have basic understanding of English. This could be an ideal opportunity for those with TEFL or similar qualifications, or equally native English speakers wanting a challenge. You would need to bring some materials to help you, as there are few good resources available here.
Art / mural painting – the school has an art teacher that comes in twice a week to work with the kids, whom you could help, but principally there is ample wall space within the school (5 classrooms and a dining/kitchen area) for some colorful and interesting imagery. The FBU would provide some/all the painting materials required and the volunteer would be expected to work with the children to design the mural(s) and then paint it/them.
